Getting started

Introduction

What Riveora is and how the pieces fit together.

3 min readSDK 0.5.0

Riveora is behavior analytics for React Native and Expo apps. Add one package and it records every screen, every tap, rage taps, crashes and device details automatically. The dashboard then shows you each user’s journey, how every screen is used, and where people get stuck.

How it works

Riveora has four parts. You only touch the first one; the rest run for you.

PartWhat it does
SDKThe @riveora/react-native package inside your app. It records events, queues them on the device and sends them in small batches.
Ingest APIReceives batches, validates them against your project key and stores the raw events.
WorkerTurns raw events into screen visits, paywall visits and onboarding attempts, and raises insights.
DashboardWhere your team reads it all: overview, users and journeys, screens, onboarding, paywalls and insights.

What you get without writing code

  • Every screen and how long it was actually on display.
  • Every tap, labeled with the button’s accessibility label or its short text (like “Add to cart”), plus where on screen it landed.
  • Rage taps, taps on things that aren’t buttons, and JavaScript crashes.
  • Failed and slow network requests: the method, host, path, status and how long it took.
  • Device model, OS version, language, time zone and each user’s first open.
  • In development builds only: a list of every screen in your app, and a picture of each one for the tap map, taken on your own test device.

Onboarding steps, paywalls and product-specific actions take one line each. See Onboarding, Paywalls and Custom events.

Requirements

RequirementVersion
React Native0.73 or newer, old or new architecture
React18 or newer
@react-native-async-storage/async-storage1.21 or newer
react-native-view-shot3.8 or newer. Optional: only for screen pictures in development builds
NavigationExpo Router or React Navigation for automatic screens. Anything else works with manual screens.
Plain JavaScript

The SDK is plain JavaScript: installing or updating it never requires a new native build, and it works in Expo Go. The one native piece is the optional react-native-view-shot, used for screen pictures in development builds. Expo Go includes it; in a development build, rebuild once after installing it.
